In psychiatry, as in other fields in medicine and science, research is the cornerstone of knowledge that enables clinicians to have an evidence base on which to care for their patients. Virginia is fortunate to have many researchers and institutions on the forefront of this knowledge. This was well demonstrated at the poster session presented at the PSV 2017 Fall Meeting of the Psychiatric Society of Virginia. Twenty-nine posters were presented on a wide variety of mental health topics. Attendees were given the opportunity to discuss these posters with presenters and ask questions as well. This year’s Fall Meeting focused on helping patients even in a world filled with chaos. These presenters showed that through scientific inquiry and research that understanding can be brought to even the most difficult areas of mental health. We were fortunate to have the opportunity to see so many top-quality posters as well as presenters. It was truly an extraordinary experience for all attendees and would not have been possible without so many knowledgeable presenters who were willing to help us have a better understanding of the many aspects of our field.
