Virginia Tech Carilion - Update

By Anita Joseph, DO
Psychiatry Resident

The second half of the academic year has been an exciting one for Virginia Tech Carilion Clinic. We have been delighted to match all eight spots for the upcoming intern class – Dr. Amin, Dr. A. Ayobello, Dr. Holland, Dr. Bhatia, Dr. T. Joseph, Dr. Lemelle, Dr. Meletiche, and Dr. Ratnakaran. In addition, we are excited for our graduates – Dr. M. Ayobello, Dr. Shuster, Dr. Johnson, Dr., Matthews, Dr. Verma, and our child and adolescent fellow, Dr. Mbu. For fellowships, Dr. Alsarraf will be going to University of Chicago to pursue child and adolescent psychiatry.

Match day at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine has been equally as successful with multiple medical students matching into psychiatry as well. We wish them the very best as they pursue their residency.

Congratulations to Dr. Najafian Jazi on winning the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry Scholarship. He represented Virginia Tech Carilion by presenting posters for the AAGP Annual Meeting held in Dallas, Texas.

Graduation will be held June 9 at Hotel Roanoke. It is a time for family and friends of the graduates, as well as fellow residents and attendings, to come and celebrate the graduates' and fellows’ achievements and mark their transition into the next chapter of their academic goals.

Our winter retreat was held on February 24, where the residents went on a hike together at Crab Tree Falls. The residents took a break from normal duty obligations to bond and sightsee this beautiful trail.

The new academic year is right around the corner and we are excited to see what it entails.
