  • An M.D. degree from an accredited school of medicine;
  • Completed a residency in psychiatry;
  • Three (3) years experience in management/administration of a clinical practice;
  • A valid license to practice medicine in Virginia (or eligibility for reciprocity); and
  • ABPN certification in Adult Psychiatry.

Desirable qualifications:

  • ABPN certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Geriatric Psychiatry, Forensic Psychiatry.
  • Experience as a Lead Psychiatrist in a public mental health continuum-of-care organization.
  • Application of quality assurance and utilization management principles.
  • Experience with a multidisciplinary team model.

The Free Clinic of Powhatan offers free medical, dental and mental health counseling to the uninsured, low income adults of Powhatan County. We are located in the Health Dept. Bldg. in the Courthouse area. Our address is 3908 Old Buckingham Rd., Powhatan , Va. 23139. Our phone number is 804 598 5637. Our hours of operation are Mondays from 4:00 - 9:00 PM and on Thursdays from 8:30 AM-- 5:00 PM.

We would love to have the volunteer services of a mental health counselor or a psychiatrist to help with our patient load. Many of our patients are on stress/anxiety medications and are in need of counseling. We would appreciated any type of mental health workers to help with our patients. We are also in need of a psychiatrist for prescription writing and counseling.
